Junior Open Report – 30 July
Wonderful
weather and course magnificent - what more could we ask for.
Unfortunately our numbers were down this year, but we managed 45
entrants including our 11 hole novices. However, the day was enjoyed
by all and some fantastic scores were returned.
Nathan Gilpin
(Torquay) won the Best Scratch with a 72, and Dan Nie (Churston) was
runner-up with a 73. The overall Best Net went to Josh Gagg from
Torquay with a net 60 playing off a handicap of 27, which reduced
him to 23!
Division 1
(h/caps 0 – 12) was won by Will Farley (Torquay) 76/10/66, second
was Sam Williams (Teignmouth) 78/12/66 and third was Robbie Thompson
(Torquay) 77/9/68.
Division 2
(h/caps 13 -28/36) winner was Jordan Mayne (Torquay) 88/27/61,
second was Tom Kilsby (Torquay) 90/28/62, third was Tom Ridings
(Teignmouth) 84/19/65 and fourth was Jake Farley (Torquay) 91/26/65.
The Novice 18
hole competition was won by Dave Harding with a net 64, second was
Chris Newnham net 65 and third was Jordan White net 66. All three
are from Torquay.
The 11 hole
Stableford competition was won by Jake Dommett 27 pts, second Tom
Keniston 24 pts, third Jack Ireland 22 pts and fourth Millie Guy
from Churston with 22pts also.
Thanks to all
the helpers but especially to Trevor Sparkes, Colin Nolan, the
parents who walked 11 holes with the novices, and the Bar and
Catering staff and all those members of the Golf Club who so
generously sponsored our event.

JUNIOR SDL UPDATE
After two fixtures, the juniors are doing
Torquay proud! We are heading the League by 3½ points having won the
day at Teign Valley last week. All the squad are performing well and
there seems to be great team spirit amongst them all.
Keep it up, guys – only 5 more fixtures
to go!!

MOLLY'S ACE!
It only took 14 year old Molly Haslam a six iron,
which pitched onto the front of the 138 yard par 3 second hole and
rolled straight into the hole to secure her first hole in one at
Torquay Golf Club.
Molly, now playing off a handicap of 13,
also qualified for the
EWGA Abraham Trophy
earlier this year and is one of the
many up and coming players in Torquay's Junior Section.

Juniors
score well in Millennium Cup
The juniors put up a good showing in the cup played on Bank Holiday
Monday. Harry Thorne was the overall winner with a net score of 64,
reducing his handicap to 5, and Dan Nie won the Scratch prize with a
71 gross. In Division 1, Robbie Thompson came 2nd with a net 67, and
in Division 3, Dillon Brown came 2nd, also with a net 67.
In the previous weeks’ competition, the Grey Cup, Nathan Gilpin shot
a gross 70 net 64, earning him an overall 3rd position and his
handicap reduced to 5. The junior section now has 3 (4, counting Dan
Nie whose home club is Churston) category 1 players – a great target
for those juniors still to reach their full potential!
