“Hi Sian / Robert      Good to hear from you both and really appreciate all the updates from yourselves and Jason. The lockdown has definitely made me realise that I do not play anywhere near enough golf. Hey, I'm even missing Jeff's abuse from behind the bar!!! I know he would say they are terms of endearment!  Kind regards Sean Fitzgerald”

“Good afternoon all, I trust you are safe and well. Thanks for your email and in the spirit of things, I am missing all of golf in general, but mostly my playing partner Simon Pethard. And especially walking up to where his ball has landed and asking the question “so how are you gunna get out of that?” Stay safe Colin Sykes”

“Of course I am missing all of you. I think often of the many happy games I enjoyed in good company.  perhaps you and the members will enjoy this poem.

It will bring back beautiful memories.

Seaside Golf by John Betjeman

How straight it flew, how long it flew, It clear'd the rutty track
And soaring, disappeared from view, Beyond the bunker's back -
A glorious, sailing, bounding drive ,That made me glad I was alive.

And down the fairway, far along, It glowed a lonely white;
I played an iron sure and strong , And clipp'd it out of sight,
And spite of grassy banks between, I knew I'd find it on the green.

And so I did. It lay content, Two paces from the pin;
A steady putt and then it went, Oh, most surely in.
The very turf rejoiced to see, That quite unprecedented three.

Ah! Seaweed smells from sandy caves, And thyme and mist in whiffs,
In-coming tide, Atlantic waves, Slapping the sunny cliffs,
Lark song and sea sounds in the air, And splendour, splendour everywhere.

From Muriel Mitchell”
